Increasing Attendance at Airport Events

Glencoe Municipal Airport found a new and efficient way to increase attendance at the annual Young Eagle Fly-In. They changed the date of the event to coincide with the City of Glencoe's annual celebration. This way, advertising costs are covered by the city's budget, and the many people who come to town for that event can be drawn to the airport for the fly-in. Holding an event at the airport enhances the city's event as well, adding to the day's activities.

Since changing the date, Mike Drew notes that attendance at the Young Eagle Fly-In has gone up. He adds to the fun of the annual airport event by taking a photo of each child with the pilot and plane that she or he rides in, and gives the photo to the children before they leave.

Coordinating the airport's event with the city's has been a “win-win” for everyone, Drew reports. Children bring their parents to the airport, offering additional exposure and a positive introduction, and both parents and children enjoy coming back every year.
