Responsibilities of Airport Managers

Airport managers are responsible for ensuring that the airport is safe for operations. To meet this requirement, the airport manager must make regular inspections of the airport and report any discrepancies through the NOTAM process. The airport manager is responsible for repairing any deficiencies in a reasonable amount of time and removing NOTAMs once the condition has been corrected. The airport manager also controls access to the aircraft operating areas (AOA). When vehicles need to access the AOA, such as for maintenance or construction, the airport manager is responsible for ensuring that the vehicle operators are either trained on driving in the AOA or have an escort. Airport managers may also have other duties such as maintaining airport lighting, mowing, plowing snow or monitoring fuel systems.
